Over the years, India’s bilateral relationship with the United States has developed into a strategic partnership based on shared democratic values and common interests in global, bilateral and regional issues. Currently, India and the United States enjoy close relations as they work closely together with business and government leaders to achieve mutual goals of driving economic growth, job creation, innovation, inclusion, and entrepreneurship. US President Joe Biden’s presence at the G20 Summit held in Delhi, India along with other world leaders further reinforced the strong partnership both the countries enjoy. It only deepens co-operation between the US and India to fight global challenges
Today, the India-U.S. bilateral cooperation panoplies multiple sectors, including, trade and investment, defense and security, education, science and technology, cyber security, civil nuclear energy, space technology and applications, clean energy, climate change, agriculture and health. This has been fuelled by regular State visits and panel discussions by prominent leaders, government officials and entrepreneurs between the two nations. Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s recent state visit to the United States further helped in nurturing the Indo-US bilateral relations. It was deemed a successful visit as it fructified in the INDUS X Summit inaugural to accelerate U.S.-India defense co-development and co-production through exploring opportunities that can benefit both countries’ border security, maritime domain awareness, space situational awareness, thus contributing to a more stable and secure Indo-Pacific region. This resulted in strengthening the self-esteem of Indian Americans and, thereby, increasing India’s soft power.
The tremendous work under India’s G20 Presidency has been applauded by State Ministers as it has brought renewed focus on strengthening multilateral institutions and international cooperation to tackle global challenges. Under its Digital Innovation Alliance 2023 initiative, Tsecond was selected to represent India and won the ‘Audience Best Choice Award’ for its innovation in Secured Digital Infrastructure. I, in particular, would like to stress on President Biden’s and Prime Minister Modi’s affirmation that technology will play a defining role in deepening the partnership between the two countries. The leaders recommitted to fostering an open, accessible, and secure technology ecosystem, based on mutual confidence and trust between the United States and India that reinforces their shared values and democratic institutions
I had an opportunity to be a part of the gatherings that took place recently in the US, which included the Indus X Summit by USIBC, Investors roundtable in Palo Alto, India Delegation Dinner, SelectUSA Investment Summit at the India House, Washington D.C and the Aerospace & Defense Committee Roundtable by USISPF. The dialogues and outcomes were all in resonance as envisioned by the leaders of the two nations. We believe that the successful partnership of the US and India that aims to address global issues through the advancement of the various sectors it undertakes is underpinned by emerging technology such as Data Analytics and Generative AI.
During PM Modi’s state visit, the leaders hailed the inauguration of the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) in January 2023 as a major milestone in U.S.-India relations. They also set forth a new mission to reach new frontiers across all sectors of space cooperation and welcomed the decision of NASA and ISRO to develop a strategic framework for human spaceflight cooperation by the end of 2023.
Additionally, they also welcomed the launch of the interagency-led Strategic Trade Dialogue in June 2023 and directed both sides to undertake regular efforts to address export controls, explore ways of enhancing high-technology commerce, and facilitate technology transfer between the two countries.
Nurturing the Indo-US relationship will go a long way in enhancing the strategic partnership enjoyed by the two nations and will strengthen the commitment towards promoting policies and adapting regulations that facilitate greater technology sharing, co-development, and co-production opportunities between U.S. and Indian industry, government, and academic institutions
The Leader’s state visits and forums have provided sustained momentum to bilateral cooperation, while the wide-ranging and ever-expanding dialogue architecture has established a long-term framework for India-U.S. engagement. Vibrant people-to-people interaction and support across the political spectrum in both countries nurture our bilateral relationship.
